Chandler is leaving IEC to join St. Francis & we are now looking for his replacement.     We’re interested in a surgical experienced RN.  Tell Ken if you know someone you’d like to recommend.  We wish Chandler much success at his new job.

We’re getting more calls about Laser Vision Correction, so it’s a good time to review the “basics” for determining if a patient is a good candidate. Info is available on our website.  

The ideal LVC candidate: 

• Is at least 21 years old (best candidates age range 25 – 55)
• Has had stable vision for at least one year (2 years preferred)
• Has a healthy cornea 
• Has refractive error(s) that fall within the treatable range
• Does not have a disease or health condition that could impair the procedure or healing process 
• Has been educated about the procedure including its risks & benefits
• Understands the goal of surgery is to improve vision and reduce dependence on glasses & contacts

Pricing is $1950 per eye, or $3900 both eyes.  Patients with VSP get a 20% discount.  Some Eyemed plans, but not all, offer a 15% discount for surgery. Patients should start by scheduling a complimentary surgical consultation (CSC), which can be set up at any IEC location.

Here are some clarifications for receiving reimbursements or approvals for future reimbursements: 

Education:

• Prior approval for education reimbursement is required from your Clinic Director, Team Leader or Ken. There is wide latitude for granting education reimbursement, but there are limitations such as becoming a warlock, witch or joining a cult.
• If you request a ‘Promissory Note Payroll & Deduction Authorization’ so IEC will pay you in advance, you must get prior approval for the course.  Provide some information – not a blank form with a dollar amount.
• Proof of enrollment after written approval and payment to you is required. Failure to provide proof of enrollment within ninety (90) days of receiving advanced payment will result in deduction from paycheck.
• IEC requires proof of course completion (copy of certificate, letter from offering program, report card, etc).  Failure to produce proof of completion also requires payroll deduction for payments made to you.  Special exceptions could apply for not finishing: injury, illness, etc.
• If requesting reimbursement for classes you already paid for, receipts are required.

Wellness:

• Must provide receipts from payments made in 2012 for 2012 – maximum reimbursement is $250.00 per year.
• Must provide some description of your reimbursement request.
• IEC does not pay gym memberships, fitness classes, or run/walk fees in advance.
• Run/walks of at least 3 miles and less than ½ marathons (13 miles) receive 4 hours PTO added after proof of completion.  Half and full marathons receive 8 hours PTO.  You must provide proof of completion: finishing place and/or time results.
• Walk/Run wellness reimbursement clarification: only one event per year will receive the added PTO.
• You can be reimbursed for multiple entry fees by providing receipts up to the $250 year/maximum.

Final CPR Recertification Course will be on Thurs. Feb 23^rd at 2:00 p.m.  Please watch the CPR dvd (available at each office) prior to the class.  Also, if you are not on the list but would like to take the course, please sign up with Chandler.

Heated eye moisture wraps are used in the treatment of blepharitis, meibomitis, chalazions and dry eyes.  If Dr. Rader requests the patient purchase one, the scribe will write on an RX pad:  patient’s name and  “moisture wrap” and attach to the front of the chart. When the patient is taken to check out, the front desk will distribute the mask and make sure the patient’s fee sheet is marked and the patient pays for the item. The cost to the patient will be $20.  If you have questions, please ask TJ.
